How do I check my debt review status?

You can check your debt review status through two main channels.

    NCR Debt Help System (DHS):

The NCR maintains the DHS which records every consumer's debt review status. Contact the NCR directly at 0860 627 627 or [email protected] to request your DHS record. NDRC's free debt review status check tool at ndrc.org.za/check-your-debt-review-status allows you to check your DHS status directly.

    Credit Bureau Reports:

Obtain your credit report from one or more of the four major bureaus: TransUnion, Experian, XDS, and VCCB. You are entitled to one free report per year from each. The debt review flag appears on your credit profile if it has been reported. Status may differ between bureaus if updates have not transmitted uniformly.

NCR DHS status codes and their meanings:

    • Status B: Debt review application submitted. Credit providers notified.

    • Status C: Over-indebtedness confirmed by debt counsellor.

    • Status D4: Magistrate's Court order granted. This is the most restrictive status. Some courts are reluctant to rescind D4 orders.

    • Status F1: Clearance certificate issued. All debts settled.

    • Status F2: Clearance certificate issued with home loan excluded.

    • Status G: Court order confirming no longer over-indebted.

    • Status G1: Confirmed and verified by the NCR. Flag must be removed.

If your status shows C or D4 and your finances have improved, NDRC's free assessment will evaluate whether you qualify for removal and which process applies.
