Which bank can help with my debt review or debt review removal?

Banks, including ABSA, Standard Bank, FNB, Nedbank, Capitec, and others, do not manage debt review or debt review removal. Banks are credit providers and respondents in the debt review process. They are not the administrators of it.

What your bank can and cannot do:

    • Your bank CAN provide outstanding balance statements and account information for use in a removal application, and confirm whether an account has been settled in full.

    • Your bank CANNOT issue a clearance certificate, apply to court for debt review removal on your behalf, update the NCR Debt Help System, or instruct credit bureaus to remove the debt review flag.

The correct channels for debt review and debt review removal:

    • Debt review: NCR-registered debt counsellors only. NDRC is registered as NCRDC3106.

    • Clearance certificate: your NCR-registered debt counsellor.

    • Court application for removal: an admitted attorney working with your debt counsellor.

    • NCR Debt Help System update: your registered debt counsellor directly, under NCR Circular 09 of 2025.

    • Credit bureau disputes: the credit bureaus themselves or the NCR.

If your bank has told you to contact your debt counsellor, that advice is correct. If your bank is asking you to sign documents or make payments in connection with debt review removal, verify with NDRC before proceeding.

Contact NDRC at 041 012 5036 or [email protected] for all debt review and debt review removal services.
