Voluntarily cancelled
The counsellor gave the NCR written notice cancelling their own registration (section 58 of the National Credit Act). Section 58A(2) requires a counsellor who cancels to give the NCR an affidavit that their consumers were transferred to another registrant chosen by the consumer.
Cancelled by the National Consumer Tribunal
Under section 57(1) of the National Credit Act the Tribunal may cancel a registration on request by the NCR if the registrant repeatedly fails to comply with a condition of registration, fails to meet a registration commitment, or contravenes the Act. The NCR register does not publish the reason for each cancellation.
Registration lapsed
A registration lapses on the last day on which the annual renewal fee should have been paid (section 52(4)(b)(iii) of the National Credit Act, as amended in 2014).
Was one of these your debt counsellor?
A consumer cannot be under debt review without a debt counsellor, and can be transferred to another registered debt counsellor at any stage (NCR Debt Review Withdrawal Guidelines, 2021, paragraphs 10.2 and 12). Check your debt review status with your SA ID number to see which debt counsellor the NCR has on your file.
