    3. How to request a record

Authenticated clients can request most documents directly from the client portal. Where a fee applies, the portal will quote the fee and route you to a secure Ozow or Payfast checkout before the document is released.

Third-party requesters (anyone other than the data subject) must lodge a formal PAIA request by emailing [email protected] with: requester name and ID, the data subject's written authority, and a description of the record sought.

The Information Officer must respond within 30 days, extendable once by a further 30 days as provided by section 26 of PAIA.

    4. Fees

NDRC charges the fees published at /paia-fees. The schedule mirrors the Information Regulator's prescribed PAIA rates (R140 request fee, R2 per page, R145 per hour search) for third-party requests, and applies POPIA s23 (first copy of own personal information free of charge) for data subjects.

Where a search is expected to exceed six hours, a one-third deposit will be requested before search begins.

    5. Remedies

A requester who is dissatisfied with a decision may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforegulator.org.za, or approach the High Court for relief under section 78 of PAIA.
