Yes, you can still rent a property while under debt review. Here’s why:

Debt review is not a credit agreement itself, which means that if you are under the debt review process, you can still rent a property.
There are no legal requirements that state that an individual who is undergoing a debt review cannot rent a property or be party to a lease agreement.
Most property agents and landlords will perform a credit check when you’re applying to rent a property. This usually includes all your credit agreements, defaults, judgments, and if you’re under debt review. However, landlords and property agents are not allowed to deny you a rental opportunity based on your debt review status only.

To increase your chances of securing a lease agreement while you are under debt review, you can consider the following:

Ask your debt counsellor to provide a potential landlord or rental agent with proof of budget that proves that you can afford the monthly rental amount.
If you can afford it, offer a double deposit.
Ask someone you trust to co-sign as surety.

- R1 710.00 over 5 months (vat exclusive)
- R1425 over 6 months (vat exclusive)
Your Invoice for the selected payment plan will be generated once we have received your application and assessed that you qualify for debt review removal.Also note that should you select a lower than R4 275.00 payment option, your application will only be sent for legal preparation once we have confirmed 50% of your payment towards the full fee. (This further means that your application will fall out of the 3-6 months period).
